Steven Spielberg's West Side Story announces DVD, Blu-ray and Steelbook releases
Pre-orders open now.
BY JOE ANDERTON
Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated West Side Story was only released at the end of last year, but pre-orders are already open to bring it home on disc in just a few weeks.
The newest version of the classic musical will be released on March 7, and Zavvi has the 4K Steelbook, 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD versions up for pre-order, with three of them having some nice discounts compared to their RRPs.
...
The Steelbook contains both the 4K and standard Blu-ray discs, and features striking artwork of the buildings of Manhattan against a block red background, which is blue on the other side.
The other versions all contain a still of Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler as Tony and Maria, respectively. Zavvi has the 4K Blu-ray for £24.99 (RRP £36.99), the Blu-ray for £14.99 (RRP £21.99), and the DVD for £9.99 (RRP £17.99).
The film is also coming out on Disney+ on March 2.
The movie has been nominated for seven Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Sound.
While promoting the film, Spielberg himself sat down with Digital Spy and reflected on his father's relationship with the musical, saying: "My dad loves West Side Story, he's seen a number of productions of it. He was 103-and-a-half when he passed, and I hadn't finished the film yet.
"He was kind of on the set sometimes because he'd be in LA and we'd be in New York shooting and he'd be on the iPad on FaceTime. He'd be able to watch the set-ups and watch some performances and we'd bring the iPad over to the monitor so he could see the playbacks... I was so sad he couldn't see it that I dedicated the film to him."
