Live Album of West Side Story, With Cheyenne Jackson and Alexandra Silber, Will Be Released This Spring
By Adam Hetrick
The San Francisco Symphony concert presentations of West Side Story, featuring Cheyenne Jackson and Alexandra Silber, will be released digitally and on disc this spring.
Presented June 27-July 2, 2013, at Davies Symphony Hall, the concerts featured Jackson (Xanadu, Finian's Rainbow, The Most Happy Fella) as Tony with Silber (Arlington, Master Class, Hello Again) as Maria.
Completing the cast were Jessica Vosk as Anita, Kevin Vortmann as Riff, Juliana Hansen as Rosalia, Cassie Simone as Francisca, Louise Cornillez as Consuelo, Justin Keyes as Action, Zach Ford as Diesel, Chris Meissner as Baby John, Louis Pardo as A-rab, David Michael Laffey as Big Deal, Kelly Markgraf as Bernardo, Julia Bullock as A Girl and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
...
The live recording will be released on iTunes May 19, with a June 10 in-store arrival to follow.
"In a partnership for the ages," according to the San Francisco Symphony, "two Broadway legends—Bernstein and Sondheim—took Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from Verona in the 1500s to New York’s Upper West Side in the 1950s, replacing the Montagues and the Capulets with American and Puerto Rican street gangs. Their unforgettable work, with tunes universally loved, comes alive in a dynamic concert version, the first time an orchestra has performed the complete musical in a concert performance."
The 1957 classic has a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
